News: Repost: Translation Help needed

FreakinMeany FreakinMeany — April 2, 2012
We're looking for individuals to help with translation for Mapraider 2.0. If you or someone you know has a knowledge of gaming terminology, and is interested in donating some time to translate small bits of text from English, please contact us and let us know.

Based on Mapraider traffic over the last few years, we're hoping to start with translations for Dutch, French, German and Spanish, but any contributions are welcome and appreciated.

@Luxon776: Thanks for joining the team! General information and instructions are on the first page of this thread. Make sure you join all five projects if you haven't already.

The labels you're seeing are the "keys" for each text blurb. To see the actual text to be translated, you need to set your reference language. Click the "Language Options" and choose "Set reference language." You may choose any language that's 100% complete, but I recommend English since it is the original. You will then see the actual text to be translated displayed below each key.

Be sure to check out my post on the first page. It provides some other helpful info such as how to deal with tokens and pluralization rules.

Thanks! Will use my whole day to translate now. :)

I'm trying to do literal, word by word, translation. I don't see phrases, just keywords, to translate. Since there is no context, I'm going for literal meanings.

But there is one problem: sometimes the translated word is much longer due to grammar differences. Ex: "WaterBallon". In PT-BR there is no single, compound, word like in EN. I must use a preposition "BallonOfWater".

@0kelvin: It sounds like you're translating the keys and not the actual text. You probably need to set your reference language by clicking the "Language Options" button. See my post above to Luxon776 or my post on the first page of this thread.

Ok. Was feeling strange translating keywords, not actual text.

Alrighty. Finished the german translation. :P

Also I found this in the GLOBAL section:

    LabelRatingReminder
    What did yout think? <-

@Luxon776: AWESOME, thanks! I've updated the site and enabled the German language. I haven't updated the Mapraider header yet though. Will get to that as soon as I can.

After looking over things, let me know if you need to make any changes. I also added "Luxon776" to the site credits in the FAQ (last question) so let me know if you'd like your name displayed a particular way. Thanks again!

The "LabelRatingReminder" is the text that appears in the title bar of a popup when you visit a map page for a map that you've downloaded but haven't rated it. The body copy that goes along with that title is in the key "TextRatingReminder." Looks like you translated them both okay, so let me know if you had a specific question.

@FM Thanks! Will browse the site with the german translation for awhile and let you know if there are any translation mistakes I overlooked.

    And about the "LabelRatingReminder"
What did yout think? -> did yout think > yout
There's a typo in that one that's why pointed it out. That's all. :p

In Global, "Created within". What created within what? I had to add a preposition "de(oa)" because I don't know the context.

    That's for the search
Created within - the last 2 years
Created within - the last month
