News: Repost: Translation Help needed

FreakinMeany FreakinMeany — April 2, 2012
We're looking for individuals to help with translation for Mapraider 2.0. If you or someone you know has a knowledge of gaming terminology, and is interested in donating some time to translate small bits of text from English, please contact us and let us know.

Based on Mapraider traffic over the last few years, we're hoping to start with translations for Dutch, French, German and Spanish, but any contributions are welcome and appreciated.

@szogyenyi: I would recommend sending me an email or a private message with your real name.

@GEx: Yeah, POEditor definitely seems like a better tool so far. Really wish I had found it sooner. DON'T HURT YOUR THUMBS! hehe Oh ... and you totally caught me. I tried to sneak a few new last-minute strings that I forgot into the translation list. Sorry ;) :P :D

    Hi guys
Jumping in for the italian translation, just waiting for the approval on poeditor :)

As for the name on the credits: is it possible to have both real and nick names like on map pages and descrptions? Mine would be Renato 'RennyManJr' Gelmini.

@RennyManJr: Approved and yes, you can certainly have both names.

    Emailed you too :)
Now I wonder when the official launch of Mapraider 2.0 will be?

    Just a little question.
When translating Titles i came across ProfileCommented, ProfileDownloaded, ProfileFollowed and so on. I'm a little confused about some of them, since i need to know what these are referring to because it could change the gender of the word, so i need to translate it differently.

I just need to know about those:
    ProfileCommented (comments made or received?)
ProfileDownloaded (how many maps i downloaded or total downloads of my maps?)
ProfileFollowed (i think this is how many ppl is following that profile, right?)

@Metalfist: Got it. And to answer your question so everyone can see: I am planning to launch before or around the beginning of February. Trying to wrap up some last-minute things. No rush on the translations though everyone -- they can come at any time :)

    @MagFreakinNeato: Awesome! Thank you.

@RennyManJr: Have you set your reference language so you an see the English text to translate? Thought I mentioned that you needed to do that, but I might have forgotten. Click the "Language Options" button, pick "Set reference language" and then choose English. You should see the text show up on the left under those string labels (ie. ProfileCommented, etc). That's the text to be translated. Does that help and answer your question?

    Edit:

Or perhaps you did that and it's still not clear. Let me see what those strings are ...

Oh! Yeah, those are pretty vague. Those particular tags are mouse-over titles that appear when you hover over the activity icons in the "recent activity" section on public member profiles. In other words, the eyeball icon shows the ProfileViewed string ("Viewed") when you hover over the icon. If you look at my profile page and hover over some of the icons on the right panel under "Most Recent Activity", you'll see what I mean: http://beta.mapraider.com/profiles/freakinmeany

In case it's not obvious, all of the strings in the "Mapraider (Titles)" project are mouseover titles.

Yup, that's it. I read all the topic before starting translating, so i saw your instruction :)

I actually suspected they were mouseovers but some of them didn't seemed like one so i was a bit puzzled. I would love to take a look at the beta site but i don't know the login info. Your description made it clearer tho :)

Go to beta (dot) mapraider (dot) com and use "betatest" for both the username and password. You can then login using your existing email or username and password if you want. You may get prompted for the beta test login again when you go to the login panel or page because it's over a secure connection.

    A few important notes:
    • The site "goes to sleep" because it's idle a lot, so it may take a 10-30 seconds for the first page to load. After you've woken it up though, it should load nice and fast.
    • Anything you do there isn't permanent and email notifications (even lost password requests) won't get delivered, so play away. Note that there are a few minor things out of whack and map submission doesn't function yet though.
    • If the site goes down or starts giving you errors, it probably means that I'm updating it :)
