News: Repost: Translation Help needed

FreakinMeany FreakinMeany — April 2, 2012
We're looking for individuals to help with translation for Mapraider 2.0. If you or someone you know has a knowledge of gaming terminology, and is interested in donating some time to translate small bits of text from English, please contact us and let us know.

Based on Mapraider traffic over the last few years, we're hoping to start with translations for Dutch, French, German and Spanish, but any contributions are welcome and appreciated.

    Hello,
I am new in MapRaider community.

I want to help with the spanish translation of mapraider. I have registered in Transifex to join the team.

I have personally translated some mods, maps and Bonus Packs for UT and UT2004, and I have no problem with gaming terminology :)

@Fobos: Thank you so much for offering to help. I've approved your request, and you're good to go. The translating experience you have will be helpful, but let me know if you need any help or have questions.

@MetalFist: I won't lose them! I've already downloaded a backup copy just in case :) Thanks for catching my spelling mistakes. I haven't proofread everything yet so I really appreciate it.

Thank you for your trust in me :)

I have some questions about words whose I need a context or an example to do the correct translation.
Where I can send you the questions?

I have tried to use the detail tab in transifex to add a comment, but I can't click on anything.

@All: I forgot a few resources that were stored in the database. They have been added in the "External" resource on the Mapraider project page on Transifex. Sorry about that.

I also wanted to ask a question -- should we translate game systems (eg. Unreal Tournament 3) and game types (eg. Deathmatch)? Mapraider 2 can have translations for these, but as they are proper nouns, I didn't think it would really be necessary. Let me know what you think.

I'm also going to make the site available to you so you can see the translations in context. More info as soon as I get that ready.

@Fobos: You can post here so all can see if that's okay. Otherwise, you can email me using the contact form on the site. Not sure why the detail tab isn't working for you.

No, definitely not. People won't know what you are talking about. Unreal Tournament 3 is a name so a name shouldn't be translated as well as Deathmatch is a name.

The details tab didn't work for me as well.

Game System can't be translated because is the original name of the Game, but Game Type can be translated, because in spanish, all Unreal Games have game types translated.
    For example:
DeathMatch = Combate Mortal, Assault = Asalto, Onslaught = Acometida

I expose here the questions about the strings:

    Like this map
I need the context, because I can translate in two ways:
I like this map ---> Me gusta este mapa
I search something like this map ---> Busco algo como este mapa.

    %name% Is Following
    I need the context:
%name% is following a map or an user?
%name% is being followed by someone?

In some strings there is a blue pipe symbol (|), but is not separating a singular|plural form, and I can't copy it.
How I can add it to the translation?

It's a grat idea, it's the perfect way to improve and debug the translation :)

:P Need a lithuanian translation? I have some free time this weekend, so I might translate a few pages here and there. :D

Thanks for the feedback guys. I'll leave the system names non-translated. I've thought about it for a while and I think I'll do the same with game types as well -- there are so many of them and I may not have the ability to keep up with the translations for them all the time. The site already supports it though, so we can add them in later at any time if we discover it's too painful without.

@Fobos: "I like this map ---> Me gusta este mapa" is the one. And "%name% Is Following ---> %name% is following these people" as in "FreakinMeany is following these people"

Can you let me know which string has the blue pipe symbol? That sounds like a bug somewhere.

@GEx: I added the Lithuanian language if you'd like to join in and help out! Thanks!

Here is 2 examples to show how it appears, but there is many more.

When I use the "Copy Source" button, they dissapears in the copy.
For now, I have only seen in Global.

Thanks for adding the Lithuanian language (but who will use it here anyway lol). Sorry if the history gets ''cloged-up'' (I don't have internet at home so I'm doing everything with an old mobile) as I have to save about every 5 translations or else all of them vanish...
Oh... And why are those blue symbols there?
EDIT: The word ''Review'' in the External section, is it a verb or a noun?
