Happy Holidays!
by FreakinMeany at 12/20/2011 1:26a Comment
I'm playing catch-up with the site due to real life commitments over the past few months.  There are a ton of maps in the pending approval queue and I'm in the process of getting them all mirrored and approved.  I expect to have them all done in the next couple of weeks.

Hope everyone has safe and happy holidays!  Look for some exciting announcements about Mapraider v2.0 in the next months!

Nali Weapons III for UT'99
by FreakinMeany at 6/24/2011 2:30a Comment
If you haven't already, be sure to check out Feralidragon's amazing WIP mod for the original Unreal Tournament.  Featuring This pack will feature 17 different weapons, and 6 "utilities" which will be located at the 1st weapon slot.  Two preview videos are available by clicking the thumbnails below:

Features Include:
  • Dynamic Coronas and LensFlares (no color blending, as it's not rendered on Canvas)
  • Carcasses and "chunks" FX (flames and other effects)
  • BSP "chunks/debris" FX (client-side only, and only appears when Decals are enabled)
  • "Shockwave" special FX: new "shake" system (more realistic than UT standard one), timed effects, shock aproximation based FX
  • New water effects (including instant-hit support)
  • Weapon overlayers, glows/lights and effects
  • New respawn FX: the respawn color can be customized, by a specific color or team based (support in all standard team gametypes)
  • Ammo animation on respawn
  • New crosshairs (discrete ones this time, not those big ugly ones like in the previous pack)
  • New decals
  • Totally new firing/projectile effects
  • Hand rendering on the weapon: optional (can be visible or not, your choice) and doesn't get affected by the weapon effects (like UDamage, Modifiers, etc)
  • Dynamic color projectiles (projectiles which color fades to others with the time)
  • and more ...
The BeyondUnreal preview thread has videos, photos and much more info.

by FreakinMeany at 6/8/2011 5:21p Comment
I'll be performing an upgrade to Mapraider's database server later this evening (sometime after midnight, EST/GMT-5) and the site will be offline for a brief period.  I expect the upgrade to take less than 30 minutes, but will post updates if it ends up taking longer.  Thanks for your patience.

Update: As of 3:30am EST, the upgrade has been completed.

by FreakinMeany at 5/12/2011 2:19p Comment
Valve has released a beta version of their Portal 2 authoring tools.  These tools are the same tools Valve used to make Portal 2. They'll allow you to create your own singleplayer and co-op maps, new character skins, 3D models, sound effects, and music and is a free download on Steam to anyone who already owns a copy of Portal 2.  Look under the "Tools" tab in Steam to download a copy.

More info available in the official announcement.

Translation Help Needed
by FreakinMeany at 5/7/2011 1:52a Comment
We're looking for individuals to help with translation for Mapraider 2.0.  If you or someone you know has a knowledge of gaming terminology, and is interested in donating some time to translate small bits of text from English, please contact us and let us know.

Based on Mapraider traffic over the last few years, we're hoping to start with translations for Dutch, French, German and Spanish, but any contributions are welcome and appreciated.
