Stalingrad 1942

During the battle of Stalingrad, a platoon of men from the 42nd Guards seized a four story apartment building an ideal defensive position. Commanded by a Sgt. Yacov Pavlov, his men (accompanied by some civilians) defended the house against constant German attacks for 59 days until being finally relieved. Sgt. Pavlov was declared a Hero of the Soviet Union in 1945.
