News: Status Report

You may have noticed that for a period there, the site's activity slowed to a crawl. There are currently 60 maps pending in the approval queue and I am getting to them as soon as I can. If you are still awaiting approval, I kindly ask for your patience.

Because Mapraider is a hobby of mine, and because the site donations aren't anywhere near enough to pay for the operation of the site (see the progress bar to the left on the home page), I'm forced to put real life duties on a much, much higher priority than Mapraider. If you'd like to see that change, please donate.

    I've submitted maps back in August that are still pending.

    I wouldn't be surprised if they are still pending in 2010 (if the site lasts that long).

    and are you wondering why your maps arent posted? I can tell you in part because of the lack of funds Meany has recieved. It is a terrible shame this world is covered in leaches, people that expect and demand something for nothing. I would say who cares about your maps if you wont contribute to the cause you don't deserve to have them posted. The alternative is you can go out and run your own site and see what it is like to have to listen to people like yourselves and continuously pay money to listen to what the same types of people say..

    It is not just the bandwidth either, testing maps takes time (time away form real life) and at some point it becomes a job. Only problem I see is no one wants to help out with dough, but they have no problem leaching whatever they want.

    Don't get me wrong, I am very grateful to have Map Raider, but being in 18K & counting in debt pushes me into no position in spending money. I'm still using the same CD player I used about...ummm...six to nine years ago (some time around there).

    One thing I could help out is to ease off some of the pressure from Meany through testing & enforcing the rules of submissions. I just doubt he's not going to share some of his power to a random regular like me.

    Hey guys/gals:

    Yeah, things have slowed way down here and I apologize.

    I had to move the site to a new server, because it was costing me a fortune, and that has taken priority over the last few months. It took so long to move because I had to make sure my backups of the site's files (and the thousands of screenshots) were up-to-date and I also ended up having to do some programming work on the back-end before the move. Turns out that there were a few subtle memory leaks in the site that went unnoticed on the old server because it had a ton of extra RAM. The new server has *just* enough RAM to run all of the site's on it, so there was no room for any leaking. The move is done now and I'm starting to focus on getting the maps approved and things back on track for Mapraider 2.0. There are almost 100 maps in the queue now, so it's slow going. But I will get to them soon. Slainchild has offered to help and I'll be hitting up for that assistance very shortly if he's still willing :)

    I completely understand how shitty it is of me to keep your wonderful creations from not being published and I feel like the world's biggest asshole at the moment. I can only ask that you hang on just a bit longer.

    Though I do not understand very much the English:\, this one is a very good news. When this project is finished, I will donate more maps for the comunity. We will follow you freakin meany :)

    It will be great to have another review site as I seem to be the only one at the moment.
    Always wondered why you haven't asked Beyond Unreal for hosting?

    Thanks for the understanding - I'm once again approving maps and the first 10 are out of the gate today. Only 90 more to go!

    And no, Tulio, Mapraider is not going anywhere :)
