A Roman Fort somewhere in Germania AD. 180

As soon as I saw this scene in the movie Gladiator I knew I would map it one day. I've played this through a few times with 10 experienced bots and they take about 7 mins to complete it. Its short and sweet.

It may feel to tight in the tent area for many but I like that kind of thing, big wide open spaces do nothing for me, just long distances to run for no aparent reason. I tried lot of time settings for the objectives and these seem to balance out best. I chose the three weapons for specific reasons. And put them where they are for certain reasons, like the Flak cannon kind of helps the attackers towards the end. The Turrets are quite easy to destroy because when they were more difficult they made the attackers life just to hard.As always with my maps there is maybe to much junk laying around, and way to much stuff to get hung up on, but hey thats the way it was back then :)

OK, I dared to rate this map 6/7/8 (6.75). I even considered review, but I rethink it because of my score so out of current one. OK, why so low?

For me - gameplay is quite plain. First objective was pain because of the defenders respawning quite near of the target (IIRC, I dislike also the facing after respawn). Also it was quite easy to spam the path with mini. Second objective needs only a little of work, because after a while you were able to sneak thru semi-open gate. I felt it like an exploit. I could easily stop nearly all bots with flak in the tent as a defender. What I have to appreciate - level has no fatal stopper as many AS levels have (often related to "bring this thing to there" - Germania has no such objectives, so it was no problem). This is why I gave 8 to AI with no problem. Other than that - gameplay was too plain for me. And build? Final temple (or what is it) has holes in it. Level does look for 7.

6.75 is still really good (and above average) rating - and I feel the level like this. My rating is my opinion; I dislike that it was considered unfair although maybe I dare to go too low. After all I think that AS fans are not so demanding players. Maybe because of the low AS standard. IMO Germania is not better than most of the retail level - and retail levels are hardly above 7 on average.

It is indeed HARD to make a strong and good AS map - mainly because of balanced gameplay and some AI challenges. But I'm not easy on AS maps just because of that. Map rated 8 is quite close to jewel - this one is not.

I wouldn't worry too much about this if I were you Virgo47 ;)
I've got three unfair ratings :p yay.

I'm not worried so much, I just wrote semi-review. ;-)))
Three? Uff... I have still two thirds of my ratings pending. So I will soon catch you! ;-)
