Tracking MR downloads.

NaSa NaSa — May 29, 2003
Ever now and then I check with my server to see what's, what. I have every available U2 map on my site ready for download which I can track. Since I installed MR sharing nobody is downloading from my site :\ That's not a problem....but I'd still like to keep track of who's downloading what, I'm sure you understand. "Drain" is the latest map, in the dark ages I could see how many times it had been downloaded, now? A possible remedy?

How about if I included the number of times downloaded in the sharing XML data files?

That way, you could just access the data like you do anything else about the map. You could then add it to the number of times it's being downloaded from your server with the number in the XML file. Would that do what you're looking for?

    Perfect! It's been added.

    XML Version
    ----------------
If you're using the XML versions, you can simply access the "downloads" attribute.

    PHP:
    $oMap["downloads"]

    ASP/vbScript:
    oMap("downloads")

    ASP/jScript:
    oMap.downloads

    JavaScript
    ---------------
If you're using the JavaScript version of the library, the downloads value is stored in the 8th array element. Unfortunately, the ShowMaps() routine doesn't account for it, so you can't display the download count without manually modifying the ShowMaps() routine.

The next version of the SDK will have a new ShowMaps that includes the ability to output the number of downloads. If you'd like me to show you how to replace the ShowMaps with a new version in the meantime, just let me know.

More Java script jeberish! how the hell can you program?
  • TheTwiggman TheTwiggman — July 6, 2003
Lol how can you program. It's an art all in itself. You learn from scratch and build on your abilitys. Next you find yourself just reading code like english. Im taking my fourth programming course next year. Mainly vb, asp and php. Php will be new to me. But I used to do javascript. Feels just like java. Lol, ya almost same name too. How obvious.
