when playing in deathmatches, or any kind of game for that matter, it is essential to have the right balance of room, layout, and aesthetics. First, you need room to manuver and shoot. Second, you need to have correct placement of weapons, health, and so on so players don't get lost or end up weaponless against the enemy. Third, you need to have a map that looks nice. I think this one is perfect, otherwise it wouldn't be my no.1 favorite deathmatch thus far.
Gameplay
I'm a casual gamer, and as a causal player of UT I can say this map is pretty good. Everything is nice and balanced, I don't get lost and I'm hardly without something more than the shieldgun and assault rifle for most of the game. There is very little or no cugging during gameplay.
Construction
Personally the colors, themes, and details applied in this map are spectacular. There's nothing fantastic about some of the architectural details, but I like the mood and coloring of this map- so much so that I wish there were a bigger version of it! It's not super realistic, but running by and seeing the details just outside the windows is awesome. Kudos also to drawing inspiration from the Krell supercomputer of "Forbidden Planet"
Computer AI
The AI run around, find weapons, and kill me just fine, and teammates aren't completely clueless. There's more than enough competition around my preferred AI level of play to provide hours of fun. There are a few areas the AI doesn't appear to go into, but this is understandable as it's only AI. I can't imagine what it's like to play against seasoned veterans, but then again I am only a casual gamer....
If I were to have any deathmatch map to play for the rest of the day, this is it. It's simple like Rankin, doesn't cause choppy gameplay and has all the tools necissary for hours of fun fragging. I wish a larger version could be released, or a CTF version, as I like the theme and the map. Even so, Entropic is good as it is.
