8)Well thanks alot...makes a guy feel welcome ;). Got hit with a variant of the f-Bagle worm yesterday & this morning when my A/V ran on schedule, it found a Trojan named JS/Psyme :[.Sure makes me go crazy, shutting down System Restore, dumped ALLtemp files, cookies, cleaned my cache, cleared my history & ran Adaware. I'm supposedlyrunning a clean machine now, but have noticed a heavy CPU load, and crappy networking. Ahh, but what are pc's for? lol. Next machine will be a Mac. Thanks again if anyone has any suggestions that doesn't inlude editing the registry let me know, please? One Love --- bongo
Ah the joys of running Windows. I'm afraid the only thing that can "guarantee" that you're running a clean machine is to FORMAT C: :)
But seriously, you'll need to reinstall Windows from scratch without being connected to the net. Then, put your machine behind a router and/or install and run firewall software before you connect to the net for any software updates.
Thanks "freakin". I've been pretty aware my machine reallyneeds a brand new, fresh install of Windows (especially IE). I've got firewall software, but found it such a hinderance at the time. :( Plus I had Norton Works, but the pkg was a %$!&* on resources too. Comcast gave me a free McAfee firewall subscrption, cuz right now the only firewall I'm using is the one on the NIC card. Know what I mean? :? I finally found 5 floppies & have a couple CD-RW's & prior to the worms had copied my phonebook. So I'm pretty good as far as what the hell I want to save from this config. Maybe my "bookmarks", a resume'..? I'm not real good at this stuff especially editing the register. Did it once using a RPC with a pal o mine in NYC, I'm in Chicago now. AND you're right, I may have to reformat C. I'll take out my books again & see if I want to go thru this again, or start on my next upgrade  My GF4 ti 4600 128MB card just ain't doin it for some of the newer games. Looking at prices on Nvidia's latest card, I've heaard they've got a 512MB RAM almost done. Thanks again, your pal, bongo
